The world’s largest cut emerald

Teodora, meaning God’s gift, is the world’s largest cut emerald and will go up for sale on Saturday. The stone weighs 57,500ct or approximately 11.5 kilograms.

Mined in Brazil, Teodora was then sold to an Indian buyer who got the stone cut. It was never cut into smaller pieces for jewellery because it is opaque, attributing much of its value to its size.

The stone is the fifth largest emerald ever found and the largest cut emerald, it was cut in India and then shipped to Canada after wholesaler Regan Reaney of Calgary purchased the stone on January 13.

Recently the emerald was appraised at $1.15 million but the owners believe that it will sell for much more. Teodora will be auctioned off at Western Star Auctions in Kelowna, BC, Canada on January 28.
